The Department of Zoology was started during the academic year 1981-1982. Since then the department continued to do well in all aspects of academic curriculum. Department offers Under Graduate programme both in English and Tamil medium. Post graduate and M.Phil Programme were started in the year 1993-1994 and 2007-2008 respectively.
In view of changing trends and global demands of biological sciences, the University of Madras granted affiliation for B. Sc Advanced Zoology and Biotechnology” in 2007-2008.
Department of Zoology offers up-to-date and pertinent post-graduation programme (M.Sc., & M. Phil ) in Zoology with emphasis on fundamentals as well as emerging areas of modern biology.
Its achievements over the years with regard to infrastructural facilities, research and teaching activities are quite substantial.
We have conducted 2 National, 2 Regional,1 International seminar & a workshop on Vermicomposting.
