The Department of Economics id proudly hosting the Consumer Club for the past 7 years from 2012 onwards. With the aim of creating awareness among the students about the rights of a consumer and to learn the ways of protecting themselves , the department through the club has organized several workshops ,intercollegiate competitions and seminars The club is recognized by the Department of civil supplies and consumer protection of the government of Tamil nadu. It has 250 student members from all the departments of the college.As a member of the club they are able to participate in various workshops organized by the ccclub of the college and also get the opportunity to participate in competitions at intercollegiate level and won prizes Through workshops organized by CCclub of QMGCW like 'Adultration ' a critical issue','Junk food and health Hazards', 'Awareness on Silk products and silk Mark', and seminar on 'Consumer awareness on online trading' students were able to get knowledge on these crucial issues and learnt to protect their rights

The club members were able to get the opportunity to put up a stall in the Industrial Trade fair organized by the Government of Tamilnadu and create awareness among the public on food adulteration, consumer rights and redressal measures. The club was selected by the department of civil supplies and consumer protection of the government of Tamilnadu in the year 2016-17 for conducting a national seminar on 'Consumer awareness on online trading'and sanctioned a grant The club got the privilege of inaugurating the seminar by the Hon'Justice and commissioner of Consumer redressal commission and also the commissioner of civil supplies and consumer protection and the technical session were chaired by eminent speakers from the respective fields. The student members could get the oral permission to visit the consumer court and watch the court proceedings lively this year Through these participations Students are able to get the awareness on all the basic rights of the consumer, able to identify and learn how to protect themselves from fraudulent activities they face and also the redressal measures. They are able to create awareness among their family members and their friends relatives and also among their neighbours. Hence the club is able to create awareness in the society as a whole.
