a). WORKSHOPS/SEMINARS/WEBINARS/LECTURES
  • One day workshop on decorative arts & crafts was organized as a part of “Earn while you learn” programme in association with Pidilite industries on 18.02.2019. Students were given an opportunity to learn fabric painting, liquid embroidery, mural painting and bag making.
  • Mrs. Jayashree, Director, De Organica Garden Shopee, delivered an innovative and life oriented lecture on “Grow Your own Food” in connection with Nutrition Week on 06.09.2019. It was an inspiring lecture focusing on the importance of terrace garden, herbal pesticides like mosquito repellent, organic gardening methods, beauty products using herbs and ideas for entrepreneurship among the students.
  • Mrs. Mahalakshmi Saravanan, founder of Women Entrepreneurs of India was delivered a lecture on “Women in Food Industry-challenges & opportunities” . Mrs. Shymala Balachandar, Proprietor of BKS Millets, also delivered special address on Millets on 29.01.2019
  • Mrs. Shyamala, Pidilite Industries conducted workshop on Fabric painting with different liquid embroidery patterns, designing fabrics, one stroke painting, mural painting on 29.05.2022
  • Workshop on “Science of healthy living” was conducted on 28.02.2023
  • Mrs. Najmunnisa, Founder, Star Foods, Millet and Organic Food Manufacturer and Catering Service gave a demonstration on value added millet products on 28.02.2023
b). OUTREACH PROGRAMMES
  • The Department celebrates nutrition week every year. The students displayed posters on healthy food and healthy living. Nutritious recipes were prepared and exhibited by the students.
  • 2 day nutritional assessment and education programme was done for the people residing in Thirisoolam village, Chennai. Skit, Villupattu, and mime related to nutrition was performed by the students.
c). ENTREPRENEURIAL ACTIVITIES
  • Entrepreneurial development sale is conducted every year to develop the entrepreneurial skills among the students and gear them towards the self employment the products on sale included food items, Jewellery items, decorative pieces, handcraft, textiles.
d). EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
  • intra-department cookery competition was conducted on 30.01.2019 for students based on the theme “healthy snacks”.
  • inter-department Collage competition on “Importance of good nutrition” and essay competition on “Role of antioxidants in the prevention of NCD’S was conducted on 30.01.2019
e). INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF MILLETS – “2023” EVENTS
  • Dr. M. Vimala Rani Associate Professor/ scientist, Department of Food Science and Nutrition, Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Science University gave a lecture on " Millets for health living” on 28.02.2023
  • Dr. Anna Ranjini Chellappa, Head, Department of Home Science, Dr.Ambedker Arts College gave a talk on – “The power house of millets” on 06.02.2023
  • Intradepartmental poster competition on the theme " Health Benefits of Millets" was conducted on 10.02.2023. A Interdepartmental cookery competition on" Taste of Millets" on 13.02.2023 and prizes were given to the winners.
